Dry Cupping

Dry Cupping

Dry Cupping is a form of manual therapy, whereby cups can be placed over several area's of soft tissue to create a vacuum (negative pressure), which lifts the tissue and creates an upward stretch within the muscle and associated fascia. This vacuum lift helps to increase blood flow and generates a stretch effect, which results in a reduction in muscle tension, associated pain and aids in waste product removal.

Dry cupping can provide simular effects to massage, but the physical effect on the tissue is the opposite. Massage works by compressing the tissue, whereas dry cupping lifts the tissue via a vacuum effect. As a result, this treatment method can be very useful for individuals suffering from DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness), chronic pain or sensitive areas where massage isn't practical, because compression of the skin may cause too much added pain or sensitivity.
